The first series, Minutes, is in its own box and consists of one book containing the full run of minutes from 1911 to 1951. Also included are addendums to the minutes in an envelope. The second series, Booklets and pamphlets, contains early handbooks and the 1911 chapter constitution, as well as many of the programs and tickets from the organization's annual initiation dinners dating from 1911 to 1985. The third series, Administrative files, consists of memos, proposals, reports, and election lists, the bulk of which are from the 1950s and 1960s.

Phi Beta Kappa was first organized in 1776 at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. It is the oldest Greek letter organization in the United States. Cecilia Hennel was born in Evansville, Indiana on March 2, 1883 to Joseph H. and Anna Marie Thuman Hennel. The Hennel's moved from Evansville to Bloomington in 1905 so that their daughters - Cora, Cecilia, and Edith - could attend Indiana University. Cora was the first woman to receive a Ph.D. in Mathematics at IU. Cora would remain at IU teaching Mathematics at IU for the next 40 years and co-authored a math textbook.
